Must read on ‘Punctuality’

-Sukanya Singh

“Punctuality is not about being on time, it is basically about respecting your own commitment.”

‘Punctuality’ is reflected when one performs or completes a particular task before or on time in order to prevent certain obstacles and also maintain a wonderful consistency of oneself in day to day life. Being punctual is very important for an individual for many reasons. Someone being punctual reflects one’s willingness to work; it describes his/her activeness. Being punctual helps an individual to earn a great reputation in front of the members of a society. Being punctual never goes out of fashion. It rather helps you to do more of what others are doing, before time. Punctuality brings ‘efficient’ and ‘effective’ rewards to you in every aspect if it is maintained properly. If you are punctual, it is for sure; the rest of the people would know and remember you as the most reliable one.

Being punctual is a very good habit. One should follow and maintain this form of practice so as to prevent itself from gaining the red cards and invite the green signals in every aspect someone step onto. Let us read a story –

An employee always reached office late. He was always questioned and like always his answer would be “traffic jam Sir!” He was sent with warning letters but he was in his track as always. One day he was directly fired from the office and he lost his job. When he asked his boss what is his mistake, the boss replied,” Time waits for none. We cannot keep on waiting for you to work for us according to your timing. You are under a company .You should follow the rules and regulations properly. You always kept on giving us excuses of the traffic jam. But why not you came out of home early to reach office on time? You were never on time. We cannot keep our official work pending. We have hired someone new. You are free to leave.” The employee rectified his fault and left. But he got a lesson that; time is like the free flow of water. It is a very precious thing into one’s life. It waits for none.

Remember when we all were in school; we were given homework. When we failed sometime to submit those assignments, we were punished. The punishment was actually for you not being able to complete the task within the given time frame and not for the reason that you were unable to understand or cope up. The teachers always asked you to question them back whenever you were in a confusion regarding a topic. The punishments were to teach you the value of time and respect it. One more example for you...You have a confectionery. You deal with the clients for birthday, anniversary or wedding cakes etc. Suppose a customer wants a wedding cake on a particular day say tomorrow at 10 o’ clock morning sharp. If you are not ready with the cake at the time slot, and if your client does not get its requirement, what will happen? Your client will be disappointed and will provide you with negative feedback. This will in turn prevent you from being boosted up and encouraged. You will feel bad and lose confidence on yourself. So what was your mistake? Your mistake is none other than you were not punctual. You did not prepare the cake on time. Therefore the time aspect has to be kept in mind every time. Once you run before time there are many possibilities for you to achieve your goals in a much easier way.

“Punctuality is the first step to knock the door of success.”
