What defines ‘Royalty’ in you?

-Sukanya Singh

In one of my early stories ‘Must read on Self-Publicist’, I have defined about certain sections of people in the society who are totally dependent on the resources which they inherit from their ancestors or family and showcases them before people mostly in a negative way; delivering unwanted vibes among the rest. They do not create or even wish to create or earn the varied assets by their own such as- a house, a vehicle etc. Their so called ‘Dad’s money’ is the only element for them to show off and nothing out of their own. Today’s story has some twisted perspectives added which some people take into their account and go ahead before the society to describe the word ‘Royalty’.

It is not something new for all of us that everyone in a society is different from the other. We witness different choice, interest, wish, passion and many other aspects of human endeavour. The term ‘Royalty’ which some sections of the people take it in some other way, has a deeper meaning than what people think and behave as. Some sections of people in the society thinks that one’s royalty reflects when they have access to expensive bungalow, expensive cars, use costly and imported health care products and all the outer and materialistic elements present in the world. I have witnessed many people in the society who often dwell in this misconception that bringing home things made in some other parts of the world, or wearing expensive stones, metals are something to be expressed more and displaying those every now and then to others, is a proud moment for them while they do not carry the minimum sense of how to talk to people, behave in front of others and act kind. At least people are not that fool to not to observe those!!!

Royalty in someone reflects when there is weight in the words one speak, when one’s behaviour spread positivity around, when one’s deeds inspire the other members of the society to follow its footsteps, when one treats everybody equally, when one motivates other to do something good for their people or community, when one extend its helping hand to someone; does not hide or escape at the time of need. Royalty does not reflect when someone wears costly and heavy makeup; it reflects when one goes out without wearing a fake mask and tries to serve others whole heartedly. Royalty does not spark when someone backstab about others, when someone taunts, when someone laughs at somebody’s struggle or success, when someone wears the branded clothes or other accessories, when one helps somebody and advertise them in front of others to gain attention...........

Let us look at this story-

A man in his imported vehicle has stopped at a shop by the roadside to buy a packet of cigarettes. He saw an old man asking the shopkeeper a bottle of water; he was thirsty in the scorching heat outside, but as his pockets were empty the shopkeeper denied giving him one. When will you define the man a ‘royalite’ when he avoids the old man’s misery and leave the shop after he gets a packet of cigarettes or when the man buys a water bottle for that poor old man?

The materialistic aspects are not the permanent assets of an individual. These are those elements which can be bought tomorrow if not today or the things which are your pride today might not be yours tomorrow. A person’s permanent assets are his good behaviour, kind words, cool mind, pure heart, helping nature and overall a good health and mind. These are those treasures which can never be snatched by somebody from one. They are permanent in nature and will forever be with you in a unique way. People are not memorised due to their materialistic achievements; they are known for their deeds instead!
